Nintendo Announces Upcoming Reveal of Switch Successor by March 2025

Nintendo has confirmed that a successor to the popular Nintendo Switch will be unveiled by the end of this fiscal year, as shared by Shuntaro Furukawa, the company’s president, on the social media platform X. Furukawa noted that it has been nearly a decade since the original Switch was first introduced in March 2015, sparking anticipation for its next iteration.

This revelation is set to excite Nintendo enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting news on the next generation of the Switch following years of speculation and secrecy from Nintendo executives. Despite a recent downturn in sales—with projections set at 13.5 million units this financial year compared to last year’s 15.7 million—the announcement is timely.

Nintendo has consistently demonstrated its ability to innovate in the gaming industry, with the Switch as one of its most triumphant achievements. Launched in 2017, the Switch differed from its competitors by offering a portable gaming experience. Unlike stationary consoles from PlayStation and Xbox, which focused on advanced graphics and processing capabilities, the Switch provided flexibility, allowing gamers to easily transition from playing on a television at home to playing on the go.

Although the Switch’s graphics performance did not match those of its competitors Sony and Microsoft, its vast array of engaging, often family-oriented games ensured its popularity. Over the past seven years, Nintendo has introduced three versions of the Switch: the Nintendo Switch OLED with its vibrant display, the original Nintendo Switch known for its versatile hybrid design, and the more affordable, compact Nintendo Switch Lite, catering to those frequently gaming on the move.

As the gaming community looks forward to the upcoming announcement, speculation and excitement continue to build around what innovations Nintendo will bring to the table with the next version of the Switch.
